Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins, such as Xeomin®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions so frown lines are softened.

Xeomin® works by weakening the muscles of facial expression that insert onto the surface of the skin. Weakening the pull of these muscles on the skin causes the visible wrinkles to flatten out. Over time, cumulative benefits are observed as the skin remodels without the negative influence of the wrinkle-creating facial muscles.

Xeomin® is used to treat dynamic facial wrinkles. The areas most commonly treated by Xeomin® include the crow’s feet (lines around the eyes), worry lines between the eyebrows (vertical glabellar rhytids, sometimes called the eleven lines or worry lines), and the lines across the forehead (horizontal rhytids).

Xeomin® injections can take between 15 to 30 minutes to perform. You may return to your normal activities, but avoid any rubbing of your face.

Every person is different, but the total recommended Xeomin® dose is 20 Units per treatment session divided into 5 equal intramuscular injections of 4 Units each. The 5 injection sites are 2 injections in each corrugator muscle and one injection in the procerus muscle.

The effects of Xeomin® are usually seen within 5 days. Most find that many Xeomin® patients notice that the forehead lines are the first to improve as soon as the next day. It will take up to 10 days to see the final results of the treatment.

Xeomin® treatment lasts anywhere from 3-6 months.
